Moccasin Bend Wetland Restoration near Blue Blazes

Restore degraded wetland areas near the Blue Blazes Trailhead on Moccasin Bend, removing invasive species and replanting native wetland vegetation. The restoration would improve habitat for migratory birds, filter stormwater, and enhance the natural character of this historically significant landscape. Moccasin Bend's wetlands have been degraded by invasive privet and honeysuckle, which crowd out native plants that support wildlife. Restoration work would involve volunteer workdays to remove invasives, followed by native plantings of cardinal flower, blue flag iris, and other wetland species. The project would be visible from the trail, showing visitors what healthy wetlands look like.
